  • Obiettivi: The learning goals will concern the current knowledge of the origin of life as we know it on Earth, and its search elsewhere in the universe, in particular in specific sites in the solar system (Mars, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn) and on exoplanets. With regard to the latter, students will learn the techniques successfully used in recent years for their discovery, as well as those that will be used in the near future in order to assess their physical features and to search for bio-markers. Great care will be given to addressing the issue of planetary habitability, starting from our planet as a case study to outline the factors that might make life possible on other planets. Students will also learn about the experiments conducted in low-Earth orbit in order to contribute to research topics related to prebiotic chemistry, the tenacity of terrestrial organisms in space, the identification of biosignature to search for life on other planets, of planetary protection and litopanspermia.
