  • Obiettivi: The behaviour of materials is related to their atomic structure, chemical bonds and defects. The main goal of the Chemistry of Materials course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between nano- and micro-structure, characterization, properties and processing of materials. The strong relationship between properties and microstructure of materials is then discussed by a thourough description of sintering processes. Additional processing techniques, as well as their influence on structure and properties, will be analyzed by describing ceramic fuel cells (SOFCs) and proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). At the end of the course the student will have acquired advanced knowledge on the correlation between structure and properties of materials, with particular emphasis on the role of point and extended defects in determining the properties of crystalline solids. The student will be able to explain the principles of some fundamental techniques used for the characterization of materials and their properties as well.
